As the PowerNomics proverb says :
"If you take risks, you may still fail. But if, you do not take risks, you will surely fail."

Intro Install Post Install - Config Config Package Install and X GUI - Sound Config Conclusion

The OS choices were Vector Linux, Xubuntu, FreeBSD and Desktop BSD.

I started with FreeBSD, so i downloaded the the 6.2 disc1 iso image, burnt to a cd, and started the installation process.

  • I selected option 1. Boot FreeBSD [default]
  • 230 United States as country
  • Went with recommended Standard installation.
  • I choosed A = Use Entire Disk then Q to Finish
  • Choosed the Standard to install Boot Manager in MBR
  • I choosed A = Auto Defaults for partitions then Q to finish
  • I selected X-user canned distribution and opted not to onstall the ports collection
  • I deselected doc and man from the xorg base, kept the default srv for the xorg xserver, and kept the default fonts.
  • I the went into custom to deselect what i did not need installed, and add what i neede installed. I deselected doc, man, then proceeded with the install using the exit option.
  • I choosed 1. install from cd, and got my last chance warning, and told it yes.

The partition creation was very fast, couldn't even get a snapshot, and the installation continued. Files were extracted into the /, /boot directoriess, dict was extracted, and adding of packages began, resolving dependencies in the process.
