My Desktop OS: An upgrade from Edubuntu Breezy to Dapper

To exploit one of the tenets of FOSS, a users freedom of choice, i exercise this right by using several Desktop Environments and Window Managers with the same or different Distros, for what they have to offer and or do best within a given criteria.

About Edubuntu
This article is based on my Edubuntu Workstation.
This was initially Edubuntu based on Ubuntu Breezy with added DEs and WMs Kubuntu, Fluxbox, Xfce, and E17.

Themes:
Edubuntu/Kubuntu.
When in Edubuntu/Kubuntu i use the baghira Mac OS X like theme. In Edubuntu/GNOME i use a customized theme made up of Clearlooks controls, Esco Window border, Human icons, and a Human background are used. With the Edubuntu/Fluxbox Window Manager i use the artviz theme. While using Edubuntu/Xubuntu the XFCE gorilla window manager theme is in utilised.
Edubuntu/E17. And in Edubuntu/E17, i'm just using the default theme for now, even though it configurable.

File Managers: Konqueror My all time favorite universal file Konqueror, was upgraded and works fine. No matter what Desktop Environment i'm in this is my file manager of choice.
I use it not just for local desktop use, but for remote use also via sftp, fish, and ftp when necessary.

Rox-Filer
In situations where there's real resource constraints, then i use rox-filer and or desktop. But sometimes i use it for raw speed to view and or access folders/files quickly in any GUI environment

Thunar
This new lightweight file manager seems very promising, but the version i have installed seems to be constantly doing something in the background. When i mouse over the file/folder display and side panes, the busy clock flashes constantly. When i right click and open the properties dialogue, the file/Folder 'Size' flashes constantly. I'm not sure what causing that constant activity, but i'll check to see if others are experiencing this and if there is a fix for it.

Text Editors:
The main text editor that i use is vi/vim, but sometimes i use GUI text editors also.
Tea (Text Editing and Authoring) tabbed base editor that has HTML, XHTML, Wikipedia, LaTeX and Docbook editing modes available, was usable, and had no problem. I used this for basic text documents.
I also use GVIM. Gedit, Kate, and or when necessary.
