I really got motivation for this attempt, from being excited that Open SuSE 10 just came out and got some real good reviews, and a multimedia community -JackLab- started around it. With this installation my rt2500 finally wifi g card worked out of the box, hotplug was sweet. The only issue i had with the initial system and the kernel that came with it, was that i would not update online properly. I always had to abort and restart the connection, but my usual internet activity was fine.
I then installed the JAD2 multimedia kernel, and applications. With jack in realtime Rosegarden worked fine for midi composition, but hydrogen was real sluggish. With the multimedia kernel, i was not able to do any network activity, while the NIC was inserted programs wouldn't open. As soon as i unplugged the card, they would then open. The other issue i was having had to do with my fastlane 2x2 midi interface, it was spewing out all kinds of crazy midi program changes, hang notes, etc... I was not clear what was causing this, i disabled all outgoing midi messages in rosegarden4, was it the OS, and so on and so forth.
So decided next.
